Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
