It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have already been conquered.

We're talking about the team that has won seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and once went nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the record chasers, are the only things left for a side that has accomplished all there is.

It needed up to Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, taking back their record for the biggest in the women's 50-over format, is, honestly, a tribute to the bowlers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their hitters to maintain a record if never given the opportunity.

In the end, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy receiving a chance to produce her most recent brilliance.

That loss "motivated us to rethink our standards," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

If this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Some will argue the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was far harder to see coming.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this innings followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"For those following me in training, it has been a frustrating experience because I feel like I lacked timing at all," stated Healy.

"But once you take the field, your fighting spirit activate and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has continuously been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in succeeding legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's motivation.

A single came off the opening delivery and after that the batsman was in motion.

"An opportunity to go out there and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself in that regard, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at the World Cup - and her century in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

Once she was removed her side needed 66 more at run per delivery - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I am glad we have the belief to achieve that now," added Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, if we do, we are confident we can do it."

That comment will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this World Cup should hear.

During the last week a belief they will triumph from any situation has grown stronger - this success coming after win against Pakistan by 107 run margin despite sitting at 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the inaugural occasion at a significant event.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated through the pain.

However although she later admitted those fitness problems have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this tournament is expected to be her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a global event as skipper.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
